Holiday Safety Tips

December 3, 2011 Carlino's Restaurant no comments

Thanksgiving is a true American holiday of joyous celebration, the perfect day to get together with family and friends. We at Carlino’s Restaurant hope that you spend this magnificent day enjoying precious moments together feasting with your loved ones.

As it’s important to stay safe, here are some simple food safety tips to keep you and the people you love healthy during the holiday season.

General Food Safety

  • Always wash your hands with soap and water before handling food or eating. It’s especially important to wash your hands if you touch raw meat or poultry before touching anything else.
  • Use specific surfaces to keep raw meat and poultry separate from produce to prevent cross-contamination of cutting boards, bowls and other surfaces
  • Wash and sanitize surfaces that come into contact with food often.

Turkey Safety

  • Always thaw turkey in a refrigerator at a temperature below 40°F. Never thaw poultry on a counter, because thawing at room temperature increases bacteria growth.
  • When you cook your turkey, make certain that every part of the turkey reaches a minimum internal temperature of 165°F. Use a food thermometer to check the innermost part of the thighs and wings and the thickest part of the breast to ensure that the turkey is fully cooked.
  • When the turkey is fully cooked, remove from the oven and let it stand for 20 minutes before carving to allow the juices to set.

When Serving

  • Keep cold foods cold and hot foods hot.
  • Use clean serving utensils for each dish.
  • If a loved one is running late, do not allow the turkey to remain unrefrigerated for longer than 2 hours. Consider covering the dishes or wrapping them with tin foil to prevent dryness.

We at Carlino’s Restaurant offer our best wishes to you for a wonderful holiday season filled with family and friends, laughter, love, peace and happiness.
